Great book!
This dystopian novel is a cautionary tale about how easily our rights can disappear. It certainly reflects on the modern anxieties about government abuse of power, government propaganda, climate change and the Earth being depleted of resources. I feel like the author is pointing out how flawed is a society where citizens are conditioned to perform their social roles without questioning and he is letting us imagine what could happen if the government secures a monopoly on our natural resources and how easily our democracy can disappear. He is describing a dystopia where life passes under the watchful eyes of the state and death comes ruthlessly to any who don’t belong.

"Eternity" by Carlos. The style of this book and Carlos' writing is one with which I am relatively unfamiliar, but that is not to say that it was unenjoyable; it was, in fact, a very enjoyable book. I believe it is one of those books that allow you to catch a glimpse of real life, not a fantasy about princes and princesses, not love at first sight, but real emotion, romance, and struggle that you can relate to. It is a piece of writing that requires patience, just like life. You cannot expect amazing, action-packed scenes at every corner. Instead, you have to sit down and flow through it just like you would real life. Much of the book leaves you wondering what to expect, who is connected, and how. Why are these characters here? However, all is answered at the very end, tying the book up in an amazing twist that really brings the story to life. If you are one for real romance and real emotion, this is for you.
The book contained themes that were directed towards an adult audience. It included things such as profanity, alcohol and drug consumption, as well as mentions of sex and nudity. I believe these themes added to the book and its ability to depict relatable and real-life characters. These are definitely themes that the readers may want to be made aware of as some may find issues with them or desire not to read about these things. Although, I do not think this is a problem within the book and believe that these themes add to the book in important ways.
Typos and grammar seem to be minimal and well-edited. The beginning of every chapter has been left uncapitalized, but due to its appearance in every chapter, I believe it to be a stylistic choice, one that is unique and actually quite enjoyable.
Overall, I rate this book a ⅘. The writing is enjoyable and easy to understand. It is not cryptic and is taken in well. The story is amazing, not something that I typically find in books, and something that you can really connect with and understand in a real-world setting. The only thing I found difficult was the pacing of the book. While it does go great with the story, it was something that required patience and not giving up. The slow pacing is an excellent lead-up to the twist of an ending and an amazing part of the story that helps give it that real life feeling.
"In sickness and in health, until death do us part." Can you remain faithful to this love covenant? Eternity," by Carlos, presents an unwavering love story between two imperfect individuals coming together to form a perfect union—one without expectations or entitlement.
Eternity revolves around four characters whose personalities become intricately intertwined by the end of the novel. The story commences with a pair of ethereal creatures who decide to engage in a game, each selecting a human to be paired with another. Unbeknownst to the human pairs, they are like pawns in a game of chess. But for what purpose?
The two human lovers initially started as best friends. She always felt at ease with him, and he was nonjudgmental even when aware of her past experiences with random men. They believed they were just friends until they realized there was a growing chemistry between them.
Their newfound relationship flourished, but as they say, good things seldom last forever. The man experiences a terrible accident, rendering him bedridden for months, and doctors suggest he might never regain his physical abilities. This becomes the ultimate test for the woman: will she continue to stand by him through these trying circumstances?
I found Eternity captivating due to its distinct narrative style. While initially feeling like the author was telling rather than showing, I later recognized that both aspects were intricately balanced. This novel introduced me to a new style of writing. Eternity conveys a significant theme, emphasizing the importance of friendship in every romantic relationship. Pairs that start as best friends tend to cultivate enduring connections.
In terms of editing, the book was exceptionally polished, as I couldn't find any errors. Given the aforementioned points, I rate Eternity 5 out of 5 stars. There's nothing I dislike about this book. I recommend it to individuals interested in love literature, bearing in mind that it includes profanity and sexual content, making it unsuitable for children.
[Following is a volunteer review of "Eternity" by Carlos.]
The book “Eternity” is a great take on the romance genre with supernatural elements, showcasing the author’s skilled handling of tension and possibility throughout the story.
Carlos is a very talented writer; their turns of phrase and snarky irony make for a relatable but humorous authorial voice. Most interestingly, the author is capable of not only creating a story with universal themes, which can connect to any person through juxtaposition with the specificities of the narrative, but also does so without naming any of the four characters, or going into detail regarding their ethnicities. Carlos has a lot to say about the world at large, along with specific, biting insights into the dating world and the concept of marriage. Still, at the end, the author manages to tie everything together with a sentimental bow which provides the complexity of a sweet and sour dish.
Despite the story being steeped in romance with minor supernatural elements, it also includes intense thriller elements throughout, elements which I found disturbing. Often these would relate to some of the horrors which women must face going through the world on a daily basis; one specific example is what could happen to the main woman character by a gold-toothed man. As a result, the story becomes something like a social thriller for most of the book. Yet, there is a very odd moment towards the end that defuses many of the stakes at hand. This results in a slightly less climactic moment, though the twist is spot on and worth the read.
There is very little not to like about the book, besides minor repetitious aspects during scenes with the ethereal beings, such as their culinary and touching habits; however, I’m certainly interested in checking out more works by the author as a result of this pleasurable reading. If Carlos brings talent anything comparable to what is in this story to their plays or other works, then they could honestly win national recognition one day.
I rate this book 4 out of 5 due to its capable writing, clear and consistent voice, and the seamless blending of romance and thriller elements. While smoothing out some of the repetitive aspects and maintaining or heightening the tension would greatly improve it, this book falls just short of earning a five-star rating.
What would you do if you found out that you had a counterpart existing in another world? Would you agree to merge with your other half? Theory by Carlos is a fictionalized story about two different worlds: the real world and the 5-Gen world. The inhabitants of the 5-Gen are doppelgangers of the people in the real world.
Theory White is a notorious man and a drug addict. He is the producer of a show in the real world. He attracted the Black Syndicate (a body that fights crime) when he threw a young man off a skyscraper. And this man was his third victim. Selena Black led the Black Syndicate to arrest Theory for his crimes. But Theory isn’t an easy man to apprehend, so Selena reports their challenges to Wu, the ruthless commander in charge of the 5-Gen world. Theory continued to torment them in the 5-Gen from an unknown location. Hence, Wu sends Selena back to the real world to eliminate Theory, since killing him there may also kill him in the 5-Gen. However, things become complicated when Selena develops feelings for Theory. Is Serena really in love with him? Will she be able to execute Wu’s orders? You have to read this thriller to find out.
This novel is a fast-paced thriller. Honestly, I was blown away by this book. The epilogue is so catchy and captivating. Theory gave me a suspenseful and horrific reading experience from start to finish. The author’s description of a massive behemoth was so terrifying. I could feel my heart thumping hard throughout my read. Theory is the first science fantasy book I have read, and it didn’t disappoint. The plot was so unpredictable and intriguing. The clarity of events in the book felt so real as if I was watching them on a big screen.
The characterization is top-notch. The author developed unique and life-like characters. I never lost track of them all through the book. The descriptions and narrations of different scenes are impeccable, which helps to make it easy for the reader to follow. First, I liked Theory and empathized with him because he had lost his soulmate. But my favorite character is Selena Black. You can blame it on my love for strong female protagonists. I fell in love with Selena because of how tough and fearless she was, even in the face of danger.
I am recommending this book to lovers of fantasy books. This book was everything I could wish for in a Sci-fi book. I still feel that I lack words to do justice to it. It is unsuitable for younger readers due to its horror and sexual content. There is nothing I disliked about this book. Also, it is professionally edited, with minor typos and lots of profanities. Therefore, I happily award Theory a perfect four out of four stars.
